I have a drooping
tree that droops
over my wide driveway.
My tree has red leaves.
I have no idea its species.
It scrapes the top of my
car when it rains. It rains a lot.
That’s all I know.
So, I cut some shady branches
and left them where they
fell.
Today I watched a deer.
It ambled over and ate
the red leaves.
There are more than
100 shades of brown,
the experts say.
I looked it up.
So, when you imagine
that ambling deer,
paint it any brown
you want.
Think about that red, too.
I stood at 5 AM and
watched a deer
eat red leaves
from a tree, I
trimmed. For
at least five
minutes.
It chewed.
That was the
best
part of my day.
Watching a deer graze.
